building disco pickles

My first UX design project - creating a brand, lifestyle journal and online store from scratch. I used this as a way to strengthen my User Interface skills and to show them off in my portfolio.

understand

Who is the user? What’s their problem?

The user of my brand and online store is someone who stumbles across my page on Instagram and admires my style and my aesthetic. Maybe they’ve seen my drawings and identify with them, so they would be interested in purchasing merchandise from me. Or maybe they’ve noticed my sense of style and want to keep up to date as a source for their own inspiration. Or maybe both.

What is the brand’s core goal?

There are two sister brands - Disco Pickles and Disco Clit. Disco Pickles isn’t directly selling anything, but it will act as a hub for me to keep my creative side active and express who I am to potential customers for freelance work. Keeping a work portfolio up to date is time consuming and should only be updated when a major project is complete. I would like discopickles.com to display smaller, more frequent posts to show that I am always active as a designer. I would like for it to act as a path to getting to the sister brand’s site, discoclit.com.

Disco Clit is my illustration brand. The goal here is to sell items with my illustrations on them - t-shirts, posters, notebooks, keychains, stickers, etc. Since I will be selling items, I need this to have a purchasing platform.

The end goal is to gain recognition and a fanbase for both Disco Pickles and Disco Clit, which will lead to purchases through discoclit.com.

Research

Surveying the user

For the research portion of my project, I decided to survey some of my followers of my current Instagram pages @disco.pickles and @disco.clit. I chose to work from 3 to 5 target users from both pages.
